The 体育训练 program serves the Damien athletic community by providing on-field medical coverage for all home practices and athletic events.
达米安高中 is also a clinical site for the Master of Science in 体育训练 (MSAT) programs at the University of La Verne and Colorado Mesa University. Clinical education experience is designed to provide MSAT students with quality, supervised learning under the AT so they may develop the entry-level clinical proficiencies and professional behavior required of an athletic trainer.
| What is an Athletic Trainer? |

Athletic 培训 is an allied healthcare profession that encompasses the prevention, 检查, 诊断, 治疗, and rehabilitation of emergent, 急性, and chronic injuries and medical conditions. Athletic 培训 education and clinical integration experience follows that of the medical education model and encompasses competencies in evidence-based practice, prevention and health promotion, clinical 检查 and 诊断, 急性 care of injury and illness, therapeutic interventions, psychosocial strategies and referral, healthcare administration, and professional development and responsibility.
Athletic Trainers (ATs) are recognized by the American Medical Association (AMA), Health Resources Services Administration (HRSA), and the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) as allied healthcare professionals. ATs work in collaboration with or under the direction of physicians, and in accordance with their education, 培训, 以及州法规, 规则, 法规. ATs provide services that include primary care, injury and illness prevention, wellness promotion and education, 急救护理, 检查 and clinical 诊断, therapeutic interventions, and rehabilitation of injuries and medical conditions.
ATs are medical professionals credentialed through the National Athletic Trainer’s Association (NATA) Board of Certification (BOC).

As required by CIF Bylaw 503G, all student-athletes are required to receive an annual preparticipation physical 检查 (PPE) certifying that the student-athlete is physically fit to participate in athletics. The physical must be completed and turned in to the athletics office on the school-approved Preparticipation Physical Examination Form prior to any tryout, practice or interscholastic athletic competition. All physical 检查s must be completed and signed by an MD, DO, PA-C, or NP. We are unable to accept any physical 检查 signed by a DC (Doctor of Chiropractic).

The 达米安高中 运动医学 Program has worked with the Pomona Valley Hospital 运动医学 Center since 2007 to provide the best possible care for our student-athletes. One of their biggest contributions to the 运动医学 Program is the Annual Sports Physical Fundraiser, which is hosted in May. The money raised at this event is donated directly back to our 运动医学 Program to purchase the supplies and equipment necessary to care for our athletes.
In addition to the annual fundraiser, the 运动医学 Center provides free injury screenings for our student-athletes, including free injury 诊断 and recommendations for care, 外加免费x光, specialist referrals and on-site PT consultation when needed. The clinic is held Mondays at 4:45 pm in the Rehabilitation Services department at PVHMC. Appointments are required and can be made by calling (909) 865-9810.
Pomona Valley Hospital has also provided 达米安高中 with our team physician, Dr. 埃里克·奥尔森, who works closely with our 运动医学 staff. Dr. Olsen has supported our sports medicine program for over 12 years by attending our football games and helping our staff in providing care for our athletes.
